Flint glass works
Industrial Heritage Interior Concept & Spatial Identity
Overview
Flint Glass Works is a former glass factory transformed into a light-filled, contemporary workspace that balances heritage character with modern functionality. The project’s main challenge was to preserve the building’s industrial identity, its original red brick walls and exposed timber beams, while creating a workspace suited for a dynamic, modern workforce.
The project was completed in two phases. Phase 1 focused on the main offices downstairs, introducing a shiny new meeting room and three private phone booths—because, honestly, you can never have too many! Phase 2, the mezzanine level known as the Loft, expanded the workspace with two screenshare booths, a one-person seating booth facing the rooftop windows, casual seating on the landing, and a wellness room with a comfy sofa tucked at the back.
Natural light floods the entire space, highlighting the industrial structure and creating a warm, inviting environment. By thoughtfully combining heritage elements with modern interventions, Flint Glass Works delivers a workspace that feels grounded in history yet fully aligned with the needs of a flexible, contemporary team.
The Challenge
he key challenge lay in balancing these heritage elements, exposed red brick walls, original timber beams, and the building’s industrial character, with contemporary requirements for a dynamic, flexible workspace. Each phase needed to enhance usability and comfort without compromising the historic charm that defines Flint Glass Works.

My APPROACH
I developed a materials-led concept inspired by the building’s glassmaking history. Key decisions included:
-
Using textured glass, exposed structures, and neutral tones
-
Combining industrial elements with refined finishes
-
Creating flexible zones for work, gathering, and circulation
-
Selecting furniture that balanced durability with visual lightness
OUTCOME
The final concept communicates an elegant yet historic atmosphere, showing an ability to merge brand identity with interior functionality. This project highlights my strengths in materiality, spatial composition, and visual storytelling.
