Spring Gardens 3rd Floor

Light, Calm & Contemporary Interior Scheme
Overview

The 3rd floor at Spring Gardens was designed as a multifunctional level that could transition seamlessly between event use and everyday work activity. Unlike the more kitchen-focused floors, this space required an open, flexible layout paired with architectural features and materials that felt warm, grounded, and visually connected to the building’s character.

The Challenge

The main challenge was to create a floor plan that remained open enough for events while still providing defined, comfortable areas suitable for work. The design needed to:

  • Maintain flow and softness within a large, adaptable space.

  • Provide privacy for offices without fully enclosing them.

  • Integrate new architectural elements—windows, curves, paneling—without disrupting the building’s existing identity.

  • Balance visual warmth and practicality in a work-focused environment.

My APPROACH
  • To address these needs, the design combined architectural continuity, custom joinery, and a thoughtful material palette:

  • Open layout: Kept circulation clear to support event programming while allowing flexible furniture arrangements.

  • Custom booths & carpet: Introduced bespoke booths and soft flooring to define work zones, improve acoustics, and create a more grounded, work-appropriate atmosphere.

  • Arched windows: Added arched openings that echo the waffle ceiling geometry. Three full-height windows look into one office; additional half-height windows sit at planter level, offering connection while preserving privacy.

  • MDF paneling with shadow gaps: Used subtle shadow gaps to separate office walls externally, giving the perimeter architectural depth and referencing the building’s language.

  • Curved ceiling & floor geometry: Mirrored the gentle curve of the waffle ceiling above the kitchen area and reflected this curve onto the floor layout to soften transitions and unify the design.

  • Earthy red banding: Introduced a red banding detail to ground the palette and enhance the space’s natural warmth.

OUTCOME

The finished 3rd-floor concept is open, adaptable, and visually cohesive. The combination of curves, custom elements, and warm materials creates a space that feels welcoming for events yet grounded enough for daily work. Architectural detailing ties the floor back to the building’s character, while the soft palette and thoughtful layout ensure a harmonious, elevated environment.
