Masterplan 2023

Exeter House Redevelopment

From the Masterplan, I chose Exeter House as my site and redeveloped the building using its existing structure to create a mixed-use development with the theme of an Urban Oasis. The building was originally comprised of three-level council flats and is situated within a flood-risk area, surrounded by a 2-meter high flood wall. To address this, I created a double-height space with a mezzanine, transforming it into an innovative restaurant.

Incorporating an Urban Oasis theme, the design aims to create a link to nature with organic shapes inspired by the Art Deco style, updated for the 21st century. This is fitting, as the building originally featured Art Deco elements. The flood wall has been repurposed to include steps, which create outdoor seating for the restaurant. This not only enhances the dining experience with a connection to the outdoors but also makes the establishment visible from the nearby bus station, thereby attracting more footfall to the building.

To preserve the heritage and original look of the building, I used pink on the exterior. This colour choice highlights the original structure against the new additions, ensuring that the historical essence of the building is maintained while seamlessly integrating modern elements. This approach celebrates the building's history without compromising its legacy.
